Sean Wheaton

Sean Wheaton works specifically with the goalkeepers of the Virginia Wesleyan men's soccer team.

Wheaton played a key role in the 2021 teams success en route to a 12-4-4 overall mark. He helped coach the first VWU men's soccer All-American since 2003, in Griffin Potter, who will return for the 2022 season. Under Wheaton's instruction, the Marlin defense posted 10 shutouts on the season including eight in a row which tied the program record for most consecutive shutouts in a season. The Marlins advanced to the ODAC semifinal match falling to Lynchburg. In league play the Marlins went 4-2-3 with the three draws coming against Randolph, Shenandoah, and Roanoke. From the 2021 roster, four Marlins landed on the All-Conference teams with Griffin Potter earning 1st-team honors. In addition, Potter and Alex Moody garnered USC All-Region accolades.

Wheaton played for the Marlins from 2000-03 and was a solid contributor in goal, recording 375 save with a .902 save percentage in 76 games over his four-year career. He ranks fourth among Virginia Wesleyan's all-time leading goalies in save percentage. In addition to his outstanding save numbers, he recorded 30 shutouts in his career. He was named an All-South Region honoree in 2000, 2002, and 2003.

Wheaton graduated from Virginia Wesleyan in May 2004 with a Bachelor's Degree in psychology.
