In Spring 2020, Matthew Watson was promoted to head coach following an announcement from Coach Fisher that she was stepping down to care for her mother. 

Watson joined the Virginia Wesleyan University athletics staff as the men's and women's assistant golf coach in the summer of 2019. He previously served as the interim assistant for the spring of 2019.

Watson brings a plethora of golf knowledge to the staff as he currently works as currently works at Cypress Point Country Club which serves as the Marlins' home course. There, Watson is the Assistant Golf Pro, helping players develop their skills and fundamentals on the course while aiding in the operation of numerous summer golf as well. He is also a Class A Pro Golf Association (PGA) member.

Prior to there, Watson was a four-year member of the Old Dominion University men's golf team earning Second-Team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors in 2005-06.
