Men’s Tennis Opens 2026 Spring Season With Two Wins on the Road

| Box Score 2 The Virginia Wesleyan University men's tennis team began the 2026 spring season on a high note, with a 4-0 win against Piedmont and a 6-1 win over Pfeiffer.

Game One:
Against Piedmont, the doubles teams started slow as Mark Backeberg and Rohan Kavali defeated Ayaan Choudhary and Simon Oster 6-1. However, the duo of Alen Curovic and Hovhannes Madanyan earned a 6-4 win over Charles Parnell and Horacio Rodriguez. Finally, the team of Jed Platts and Sevastien Muller defeated the Piedmont team Leyton Dunn and Zachary Mcelveen 6-4 to win the doubles point.

For the singles matched Joshua Buckland made quick work of Jack Maddox with a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the #6 singles spot.

Next, Sebastien Muller earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Leyton Dunn in the #4 singles spot.

And finally, Jed Platts emerged victorious against Mark Bckeberg 6-2, 6-2 in the #2 singles position to seal the 4-0 win over Piedmont.

Game Two:
In the second match of the day, the Marlins again dropped the first doubles match of the day as Sebastien Muller and Jed Platts lost 6-2 to Valter Davi Marques Albuquerque and Jayden Wellman.

However, in the #3 doubles spot, the duo of Tudor Vlad and Hovhannes Madanyan defeated Aden Burgoyne and Aristide Van Bergeijk 6-4 to tie the doubles score at 1-1.

The #2 doubles sport was the deciding match, and the Marlins came out on top as the duo of Ayaan Choudhary and Joshua Buckland defeated Pogdan Stan and Aissultan Mukhambetov 6-3.

The singles matches began with the Marlins carrying momentum from their doubles point victory. Joshua Bucklan rallied in the #5 singles spot, beating Adan Burgoyne 6-1, 6-2.

However, Pfeiffer won the next singles match in the #6 spot as Hugo Kezen beat Hovhannes Madanyan 6-4, 6-3.

The #1 singles spot was the next match to finish as Jed Platts came out on top of a hard-fought match, defeating Valter Davi Marques Albuquerque 7-6, 6-2 to give the Marlins a 3-1 lead.

Simon Oster was the next victor in the singles for VWU inthe #4 spot,  as he won against Bogdan Stan 7-5, 6-3 to earn the clinching fourth point for the Marlins.

Ayaan Choudhary won in the #2 spot against Aissultan Mukhambetov 6-4, 4-6, 1-0.

Tudor Vlad had a comeback victory in the #3 singles sport against Jayden Wellman losing the first set 5-7, and going on to win the next two sets 6-1, 7-6.
