Men's Tennis Defeats Averett in 6-3 Thriller

The Virginia Wesleyan University men's tennis team (7-3, 1-0 ODAC) defeated Averett 6-3 in conference play. 

The doubles duo of Tudor Vlad and Sebastien Muller lost 8-6 in the No. 3 spot, and the No. 1 doubles of Felix Bevc and Ole Behrmann dropped an 8-6 match as well. However, the brother duo of Rafael Rullan Zarraga and Carlos Rullan Zarraga won the No. 2 doubles 8-6 to cut the Cougars lead to 2-1. 

Ole Behrmann was the first to finish in the No. 3 singles spot winning 6-2, 6-2 that tied the match a 2-2. Felix Bevc won in the No. 1 singles spot with a 6-2, 6-2 victory to take a 3-2 lead. and Rafael Rullan Zarraga won in the three sets in the No. 2 singles 6-3, 2-6, and 6-4 to put the Marlins up 4-2. 

Carlos Rullan Zarraga lost the No. 4 singles match 3-6, 6-3, and 6-0 to bring the score to 4-3. 

The match came down to the last two singles as Hubert Parawa fought hard against Gero Siebert. Parawa won the first set convincingly 6-2, but the second set was much closer as he won 7-6 to seal the win for the Marlins. 

Tudor Vlad came from behind in the No. 5 spot as he lost set one 6-2, but fought back and won set two 7-5, and won the third set 10-8 to seal the 6-3 win over Averett.

Singles:

  1. Felix Bevc vs. Alex Donnelly, 6-2, 6-2. 
  2. Rafael Rullan Zarraga vs. Jaeden Mukkaladyil, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. 
  3. Ole Behrmann vs. Sam Egui, 6-2, 6-2. 
  4. Carlos Rullan Zarraga vs. Prabjeet Chandhok, 3-6, 6-3, 0-6.
  5. Tudor Vlad vs. Kazuki Fukushima, 2-6, 7-5, 10-8. 
  6. Hubert Parawa vs. Gero Siebert, 6-2, 7-6.
