Women's Tennis Defeats Elizabeth City State University 7-0

The Virginia Wesleyan women's tennis team defeats Elizabeth City State University 7-0. 

The Marlins traveled to North Carolina on Friday, March 1, to face Division II opponent, Elizabeth City State University. The match was played with Division II scoring rules, in which a single point is awarded to the team that wins the best of three doubles matches. 

Haley Haydon and Sophia Bibbo were the first to finish with a score of 6-2 at #3 doubles. At #2 Shannon Lewes and Mikisha Thomas fought hard to close out, winning 7-5 to secure the doubles point for the Marlins. Tuva Flink and Sophie Engelberts also won 7-5 at the top spot. 

Haley Haydon was first to finish her singles, cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 win over her opponent at #6. Shannon Lewes followed suit with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at #4. These matches gave the Marlins a 3-0 lead. Next to finish was Sophia Bibbo, clinching the match for the Marlins with a 6-3, 6-1 at #5.  

Play continued on courts 1-3. Sophie Engelberts battled at the second flight to win 7-5, 6-1. At #3, Mikisha Thomas battled from behind after losing the first set, winning handily in a 3rd set match tiebreaker with a score of 3-6, 7-6 (3), 10-3. Finally, Tuva Flink outlasted her opponent with a straight sets victory of 6-4, 6-2 at #1 to give the Marlins a perfect 7-0.
