The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team (3-3) defeated Meredith 2-0.

Shannon Gaffney led the team with one goal and one assist, Lauren Hedspeth scored one goal for the Marlins, and DJ Holsclaw recorded the win playing all 60 minutes of the game and making three saves. 

The Marlins scored with a minute left in the first quarter as Shannon Gaffney found the back of the net to put the Marlins up 1-0. 

The Marlins were held scoreless in the second quarter, however, VWU outshot the Angels 8-2 in the quarter and had six shots on target, and four corners to go into the break up 1-0.

In the fourth quarter, Virginia Wesleyan doubled their advantage with a goal from Lauren Hedspeth who received a great pass from Shannon Gaffney to put the Marlins up 2-0.
