VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan field hockey team opened its season on Thursday afternoon September 1 against the Mustangs of Stevenson University. The Mustangs outlasted the Marlins 6-0 despite hard efforts by VWU.

FIRST HALF
- Stevenson found a pair of goals in the opening quarter near the five and ten minute marks taking a 2-0 lead into the second quarter.
- Virginia Wesleyan recorded a penalty corner shortly after the start of the second quarter but a keeper save staved off the Marlin goal.
- The Marlins recorded a couple more shots that went wide as the Mustangs collected two more goals taking a 4-0 lead into the halftime break.
SECOND HALF
- Stevenson added two more goals in the third quarter while Virginia Wesleyan held SU scoreless in the fourth putting the final score at 6-0.
