Hanna Hull breaks NCAA Career Wins Record; No. 2 Marlins sweep Shenandoah in ODAC quarterfinals doubleheader

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan softball team swept the Hornets of Shenandoah  University on Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament at TowneBank Park in Virginia Beach, VA. Hanna Hull with the win in game one, broke the NCAA Division III Career Wins record of 124 wins and now sits at 125 in her career.

  • The Marlins got the scoring started in the bottom of the first putting five runs on the board beginning with a two RBI single to left field by Katelyn Biando that score Jessica Goldyn and Madison Glaubke
  • Danielle Stweart came home on a Julie Fassl single to right field and Biando was driven in off a single up the middle by Ariana Rolle.
  • Virginia Wesleyan's lead grew to 8-0 after Goldyn got a great piece of the pitch and sent it over the right field wall for a three run homer the scored Kayla Womack and Rolle on the play. 

KEY STATS

  • Hanna Hull with the win, broke the NCAA Division III Career Wins record of 124 wins and now sits at 125 in her career. She threw four innings giving up one hit while fanning five of 13 batters faced. 
  • Jessica Goldyn drove in three RBI while scoring twice on one hit in two at-bats. 
  • Katelyn Biando and Ariana Rolle each drove in a pair of RBI and scored once themselves.

  • The Marlins continued what they started in game one in game two as Julia Sinnett score Jessica Goldyn on a groundout to second base. 
  • VWU added two more runs in the fourth inning taking a 3-0 lead as Makenzie Watts and Julie Fassl crossed home plate off groundouts by Krissy D'Arco and Kayla Womack
  • Two more runs crossed in favor of the Marlins putting the score at 5-0 in the fifth inning with Sinnett and Haleigh Settle crossing home plate, again off groundouts from Katelyn Biando and Fassl. 
  • The Marlins final run came across in the bottom of the sixth as Womack came home on a Ariana Rolle groundout. 

KEY STATS

  • Six different Marlins record an RBI as well as scored a run. 
  • Emily Seale (W, 16-2) threw seven full innings giving up no runs on five hits while striking out five. 

NEXT
The Marlins return to action on Wednesday, May 5, when they host the Maroons of Roanoke College in the ODAC semifinal round of the Softball Tournament. Game times are set for 2 and 4 PM.
