FAYETTEVILLE, North Carolina - Virginia Wesleyan University women's tennis earned their first team win on the season by defeating Methodist University 7-2 Sunday afternoon in Fayetteville. The Marlins found themselves down 1-2 after doubles but used strong singles play to sweep the Monarchs, claiming a 7-2 road win.

Senior Audrey Bally and sophomore Alexa Brewster cruised to a 8-3 win at #1 doubles, evening their season record to 2-2 on the season at the top spot
Junior Christine Zalamedaand sophomore Anna Rogers dropped their first match of the season falling 8-5 at #2 doubles
Playing in their 2nd match of the season, freshmen Sophia Bibbo and Shannon Lewes dropped a tight 8-7 (5) decision at #3 doubles.
Sophomore Alexa Brewster continued her strong play at the top spot, taking down junior Jill Lawarence 6-2, 6-3, evening her record at 2-2 at #1 singles
Anna Rogers earned her first win of the season at #4 singles knocking off senior Monarch Natalie Collins 6-4, 0-6, 11-9
Also earning her first singles win of the season was junior Amanda Stegemannas the defeated Methodist's Hannah Higgins 5-7, 7-5, 10-5.
Shannon Lewes improved to 3-1 on the season at #5 singles, taking out sophomore Sydney Bird, 6-2, 6-2
Christine Zalamedacontinues her solid play at #2 singles and improved to 3-1 on the season by defeating freshman Olivia Ward 6-2, 6-2.
This was the first contest against Methodist for VWU since Coach Perry took over the program 6 years ago. The Monarchs will travel to Virginia Beach on Wednesday March 31st for a 2nd match against the Marlins.
