Volleyball Swats Hornets in Straight Sets

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University volleyball team defeated Lynchburg in straight sets (25-19, 32-30, 25-19) Wednesday evening on the road. With the victory, the Marlins improve to 10-2 in conference play while moving to 21-8 on the season. Lynchburg goes to 14-8 on the year (5-5 ODAC).

The Marlins bookended the match with a pair of solid offensive performances. In set three, the visiting team produced one of its most efficient sets of the season as they registered an attack percentage of .414, recording 14 kills compared to just a pair of errors.

Offense was spread throughout the entire roster with seven Marlins notching a kill. Leading the way was a trio of seniors including Amber Matalus, Greta Coss and Lauren Topper, who each finished with eight. Aiding the offensive pressure were Haley Sutton and Meghan Wood who dished out 18 and 16 assists, respectively.

Donning the libero jersey, Alyssa Taylor led the squad in kills with 11.

Volleyball will return to action again at 7 p.m. next Wednesday as the team hosts North Carolina Wesleyan College for a non-conference tilt.
