Volleyball Collects Two Key Conference Wins

ASHLAND, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University volleyball team swept its pair of ODAC matches Saturday at Randolph-Macon. The Marlins toppled Emory & Henry in straight sets before defeating Guilford, 3-0, in the day's second match. With the results, the Marlins go to 15-4 on the year and 5-0 in conference action.


MATCH 1: VWU - 3  E&H - 0 (25-14, 25-9, 25-20)

The offense was in full effect all match as the squad finished with an attack percentage above .300. Leading the way was Elizabeth Britton, who finished with 10 kills and an attack percentage of .536. Amber Matalus was close by as she ended with nine kills.

Setting duties were split between Haley Sutton and Meghan Wood as they finished with 18 and 10, respectively.


MATCH 2: VWU - 3 GC - 0  (25-18, 25-17, 25-10)

Offense was split pretty evenly among the Marlins as seven different players recorded multiple kills. Greta Coss was the team's leader as she collected nine. Assisting the action was Meghan Wood with 15 helpers and Sutton with 14. 

On defense, the middles came up big as Syndey Collins racked up five block assists and Matalus four. Alyssa Taylor manned the backline as she finished with a team-high 12 digs.

Volleyball will be back in action at 8 p.m. on Friday as the team takes on Penn State Behrend at the Marymount University Tournament.
