Awards Continue to Roll In for Matalus

DANVILLE, Va. – Amber Matalus of the Virginia Wesleyan University volleyball team has been tabbed All-State Second Team by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) for her performance over the 2018 season.

Matalus has had an outstanding season, acting as one of the most proficient hitters in Coach Andrea Hoover-Erbig's lineup. The middle has hit at a clip of .298, which ranks fifth in the conference (with nearly 80 more kills then the top four). Matalus has racked up 243 in her 99 sets played, hitting a rate of 2.45 kills-per-set. The junior also broke her career record for kills in a match with 17 against Shenandoah on Sept. 22. Aside from her offense, Matalus has also been a force at the net and at the service line. Her 72 blocks on the season is ranked fifth in the ODAC while her 20 service aces were third on the team.

At the season's conclusion, Matalus was the lone middle hitter to earn All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) First Team honors, was named to the All-South Region First Team by the AVCA and become just the third player in program to receive All-America honors (Honorable Mention).
