Marlins Upend Sweetbriar 7-2

Amherst, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan women's tennis team improved to 8-6 with a 7-2 win over Sweetbriar College on Sunday.

In doubles, the Marlins struck first by taking the #1 and #3 spots 8-4 and 8-1 respectively.  Freshman team of Audrey Bally (Nice, France) and Makayla Velic (Jacksonville, FL) took down Emily Wandling and AJ Lukanuski 8-4 at 1.  At 3, junior Kristina Sabelstrom (Colorado Springs, CO) and senior Taylor Witherspoon (Fairfax, VA) defeated Lacey Tucker and Lexi Culley 8-1.

In singles, the Marlins came out hot by taking 5 of 6 first sets.  At #1, Velic defeated Wanderling 6-3, 6-2 for her 8th win of the year at the top spot.  At #2, Bally defeated Lukanuski 6-2, 6-2. At #6 Sabelstrom improved to 10-2 on the season with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lacey Tucker.  

The Marlins will travel to Randolph Macon College on Wednesday to take on the Yellow Jackets.  Match time is set for 4 PM.
