Women's Lacrosse Concludes Season with Loss to Roanoke

SALEM, Va. – The sixth-seeded Virginia Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team fell, 21-6, to #3 Roanoke Wednesday evening in the first round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship. With the loss, the Marlins end their year with a record of 8-9.

The Maroons struck first, scoring three unanswered through the first 4.5 minutes. Renee Burt broke up the run, cashing in a free-position attempt at the 25:13 mark. The lead was cut to 3-2 just under three minutes later as Tori Manahan netted one on a free-position attempt as well. Over the next ten minutes though, Roanoke piled in seven-striaght goals, going up 10-2. Abby Shope would score two more in the first half, but the Marlins found themselves sin a 16-4 hole going into the intermission.

After the break, the Maroons cashed in four more before Ashley Campos scored the Marlins fifth goal at the 11:50 mark. Liza Holford would add one more, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Mike Hairston got the start in net, stopping four shots through the first 25:03. AJ Adan came in for relief, picking up five saves throughout the rest of the game.
