Women's Lacrosse Drops Road Contest to Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team fell, 19-6, to Lynchburg Wednesday afternoon on the road. With the loss, the Marlins move to 7-8 on the season and go to 3-5 in conference play. Lynchburg improves to 8-7 on the season (5-3 ODAC).

It was all Hornets from the opening whistle as the home side scored the contest's first nine goals. Renee Burt broke up the run with a goal at the 8:20 mark as she converted on a free-position shot. Abby Shope would score again with just 38 seconds left in the half, but the Marlins would bring a 10-2 deficit into the halftime locker room.

After Lynchburg scored one to open the half, the Marlins would cash in the next three goals. Jordan Callahan scored at 29:04 down a player. Alyssa Bernal would cut the lead down 11-4 less the minute later and Burt would cash in her second free-position shot at the 26:46 mark. Lynchburg would eight-goal run over the next 20 minutes though, with Burt tucking her third goal of the day on the free position right before the final whistle.

Mike Hariston manned the crease for the first 47 minutes, stopping seven Hornet shots. AJ Adan came in for the final 13 minutes, picking up three saves.

Women's lacrosse returns to action again at 1 p.m. on Saturday as they host Ferrum for the regular season finale as well as the team's Senior Day.
