NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team dropped its contest against Christopher Newport University, 18-1, Wednesday afternoon on the road. With the result, the Marlins move to 1-2 on the year while the Captains improve to 1-3.
The marlins found themselves in a hole quickly as Christopher Newport netted the game's first nine goals. Ashley Campos halted the run as she cashed one in unassisted at the 16:10 mark. The Captains continued to apply pressure though, finishing the half up 14-1. In the second stanza, the Marlins did better to stop the CNU offense, only allowing fur goals, but the damage was too much to create any type of comeback.
Jordan Callahan had a solid day in the midfield, collecting three ground balls while also winning a team-high three draws.
Women's lacrosse will return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday as the team hosts Methodist University on Birdsong Field.
