Women's Lax Drops Home Finale to Lynchburg

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team dropped its home contest with Lynchburg, 16-7, Thursday evening at Birdsong Field. With the loss, the Marlins go to 7-7 overall and 1-6 in conference play. Lynchburg goes to 7-7 on the year (5-2 ODAC).

Lynchburg got on the board as they put two in over the first ten minutes. Avery Frangelli cut the lead to just one though as she nailed a free-position shot at the 18:51 mark. Over the next two minutes the team's traded a goal a piece to make the score 3-2. The Hornets went on a tear though to close out the period, scoring five unanswered.

In the second, Frangelli opened up the scoring as she put one past the goalie exactly one minute in. Unfortunately, Lynchburg went on another five goal run, putting themselves too far ahead for any chance of comeback.

Frangelli, Megan Schallock and Tori Manahan all finished the game with a pair of goals. Liza Holford would net the last one for the Marlins.

Jordan Moilanen started in goal for the home side stopping seven Hornet shots. She would be relieved by Mike Hairston, who saved five shots over her 25:35 minutes.

Women's lacrosse will return to action for the season finale against Guilford at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
