VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team earned its third-straight win as it defeated Delaware Valley University, 13-6, Wednesday afternoon at Birdsong Field. With the win, the Marlins improve to 4-1 on the year while the Aggies move to 3-2.
Del Val got on the board first as the Aggies scored on a free-position shot 21:42 into the game. That was it for the visiting squad though as the Marlins offense came alive scoring the next eight goals. Liza Holford scored first for the Marlins as she tucked away a pass from Megan Shallock. Avery Frangelli then went off as she scored three of the next four goals scored. Just under nine minutes to go in the first half, VWU found itself down two players on yellow cards but that didn't hinder the offense. The squad put away two on the penalty kill over the course of two and half minutes. Ashley Campos finished the first period scoring with an unassisted goal right before the buzzer.
After the half, Delaware Valley once again opened up the scoring with two goals to cut the deficit to 8-3. Two Holford goals on the free position reset the Marlin offense though and the team finished out the game with the win.
Holford led the way, notching five points on four goals and one assist. Frangelli wasn't far behind, nabbing four points on three goals and an assist. Campos (2G), Tori Manahan (1G, 1A) and Renee Burt (2A) also finished with multiple points.
Jordan Moilinen played all 60 minutes in goal picking up nine saves, six of which coming on Aggie free-position shots. The freshman also led the team in ground balls with four.
Women's lacrosse picks up action again at 2 p.m. on Saturday as the team takes on Hollins.
