Women's Lacrosse Unable to Overcome CNU in Home Opener

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team was unable to take down Christopher Newport University at home Saturday afternoon as the squad, fell to the Captains, 18-2. The loss drops the team's record to 1-1 on the year.

Things looked promising right off the bat as the Marlins netted their first goal just 54 seconds into the contest. Tori Manahan found Megan Shallock right in front of the goal mouth and the senior stuck it past the keeper to give VWU an early lead. That would be the last of the scoring for the Marlins until they bookended the game with a Jordan Callahan goal with just three seconds left in regulation.

Jordan Moilanen started the game, making four saves through 12 minutes, but was relieved by Mike Hairston, who finished the tilt out with three saves.

Women's lacrosse will return to action on Sunday, March 4th as the team host King's College for a 4 p.m. battle.
