Women's Basketball Secure First Win of Season

Fredericksburg, VA - The Virginia Wesleyan University Women's Basketball team knocked off Wesley College 69-46 in the opening game of the Hyatt Place Tip-Off Tournament hosted by the University of Mary Washington.  It was the Marlins first win of the season and first year coach Liz Hudy's first victory as a Marlin.  

The Marlins jumped out in front early out scoring Wesley 15-7 in the opening quarter and held a comfortable 38-19 lead at halftime. 

Freshman Isis Moore led the Marlins with 15 points in her return to her hometown.  Freshman Lindsay Hicks, also from the Fredericksburg area, led the Marlins in rebounds with 8.  

Junior Mak McSweeny had a solid night by going 4 for 7 from the field including 2-2 from behind the arc while scoring 14 points.

Sophomore Jovante White also reached double figures in points by going 1 for 3 from the field and 8 for 10 from the free throw line.  

Virginia Wesleyan received major support from their bench tonight; 46 of the Marlin's 69 points came from non-starters.  

The Marlins advanced to the finals and will face host Mary Washington on Saturday.  Tip off is scheduled for 2 PM.
