Women's Basketball Takes Down N.C. Wesleyan In Home Opener

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team took down North Carolina Wesleyan College, 68-50, Tuesday evening in the Jane P. Batten Student Center. With the win, the Marlins jump to 2-3 on the year while the Battling Bishops slide to 2-2.

After a tight first quarter, the Marlins offense began to roll. The squad earned six trips to the charity stripe which led to nine points. A 20-point second would give the Marlins a 32-22 lead going into the intermission.

Coming into the second half, the Marlins kept things going as six different players combined for 19 points in the third. That was enough to seal up the team's second straight victory as a 17 point final quarter topped the Bishops.

The offense saw three players hit double-digit scoring including a game-high 22 from Jayla Harris. Amanda Gerni chipped in 14 points while Camahni Kelly pitched in a season-high 11.

Defensively, Jada Lewis had a monster game in the paint swatting a career-high five shots. She also hauled in six boards and picked up a steal.

Women's basketball will return to action at 2 p.m. on Sunday as the squad will open up its ODAC play with a home bout against Guilford.
