LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's track and field team took home fourth place at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships over the weekend in Lynchburg, Va. The team scored in 13 different events for a total of 76 points.
Much of the Marlins success came in the hurdles as VWU topped the field in both events. Landry Moffo posted the top time in the 110m hurdles as he crossed the finish line in 14.87. Michael Gatling also earned points in the event as he took seventh with a time of 15.69. In the 400m hurdles, Eamon Cooney topped the podium with his time of 54.46.
The Marlins other first place finish came over at the throws as Quentin Webert claimed the top spot in the hammer toss with a throw of 46.31 meters. Teammate Coby Cockrell also made his mark as he threw the hammer 41.85m. The Marlins nabbed in points in every throw on the weekend, beginning with Tyreece Duke who took third in the Javelin with a throw of 49.76. In the shot put a pair of Marlins earned points as Cockrell (13.11m) took sixth and CJ Govan (12.86m) nabbed eighth. Cockrell completed a trio of throws with a fourth place finish in the discus as well, hurling his disc 39.91m.
The final field event Virginia Wesleyan earned points in was the triple jump as Michael Gatling's leap of 13.21m earned him eighth.
Over at the track, the Marlins had success in both short and long distances. Skyler Lattuca nabbed a fourth-place finish in the 5000m (15:20.46) while Michael Tres earned eighth in the 3000k steeplechase (10:24.72). Curtis Dudley did well in the short track, taking fourth in both the 100m (11.12) and the 200m (22.38).
The final points for the Marlin squad came in the relays. The combination of Dudley, Moffo, Eric Fisher and Daniel Johnson took fourth in the 4x100m with a time of 43.26. Gatling, Gavin Steel, Peyton Williams and Cooney then turned out a fifth place finish in the 4x400m with a time of 3:32.37.
