NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University women's indoor track and field team found plenty of success at the Captain's Invite hosted by Christopher Newport University on Friday and Saturday. The squad found itself competing against multiple teams including a number of Division I schools.
Kwonsha Washington zoomed on the short races beginning with a fifth place finish (out of 28) in the 200m (27.55). She would later take second in the 400m with a time of 1:02.66. The previous day she teamed up with Terra Caple, Shannon Harris and Jaylyn Lane in the 4x200m for a time of 1:48.79. The relay demonstrated a great come-from-behind effort to claim first overall.
In the jumping pits, Lane used a leap of 4.95m in the long jump to take fourth overall and first among DIII competitors. She would then nab the top spot in the triple jump with a bound of 11.04m
Women's indoor track and field will compete again on Feb. 3 as the team will go back to Christopher Newport for the Vince Brown Invitational.
