VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Three Virginia Wesleyan University student athletes were recognized by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference for their performances over the week. Hanna Hull and Madison Glaubke of the softball team, were named the conference Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, and Kevin Duffy took home the Men's Golfer of the Week honors.
Hull continued as she has all year, dominating from inside the circle. The sophomore appeared in six games over the week, earning the win in five of them. Hull nabbed a victory twice against nationally-ranked Christopher Newport University, tossing a total of 7.0 innings, fanning 13 batters. On Saturday she had a complete game one hitter against Randolph and on the following day helped shut out Shenandoah in back-to-back games. At the week's conclusion, Hull allowed only eight hits over 21.0 innings and collected 32 punch outs.
Glaubke was a force from inside the batter's box on the week, recording a hit in every contest and registering multiple hits in five of them. The sophomore went 2-for-4 in both games against CNU, scooping an RBI as well. She really impressed in the two wins over Randolph, combining to go 6-for-7 with five runs scored and a home run. Glaubke finished the weekend with a .650 batting average (13-for-20), clubbing three extra base hits.
Duffy helped the Marlins grab two tournament wins this weekend finishing in the top of the field both times. In the Glenn Heath Memorial in Williamsburg, the senior shot a 153 (+9) which put him in a tie for fourth overall. The senior then had perhaps his best outing at the Marlin invite, shooting a 74 (+2) in round one and a 72 (E) in round two, giving him a tournament-low 146 (+2) after two days.
Softball returns to action at 3 p.m. on Wednesday as the squad takes on nationally-ranked Randolph-Macon in a home doubleheader. Golf will take its clubs to Greensboro, N.C. where the team will compete in the ODAC Championships beginning on Sunday.
