Marlins Earn Four ODAC Players of the Week

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College athletic teams saw an impressive four student-athletes garner ODAC Player of the Week accolades this week.

Hanna Hull - Softball Pitcher of the Week

Hull, a freshman from Chesterfield, Va., continues to shine in her first season for nationally third-ranked Virginia Wesleyan as she recorded three more victories, three double-figure strikeout games, and allowed just one run over 20 innings in the circle last week.

She opened with a complete game three-hit shutout of Mary Washington in the Marlins 3-0 victory. She walked four and struck out 14 batters. Hull followed that with six strong frames in a 2-1 victory over Randolph. She gave up one run on one-hit with three walks and 14 more strikeouts. Hull capped her week with a two-hit shutout of Shenandoah in Virginia Wesleyan's 2-0 victory. She walked one and fanned 11 hitters.

For the season, Hull is 12-1 and leads the ODAC in all major pitching categories including wins, innings pitched (77.0), earned run average (0.27), strikeouts (141), and shutouts (6). Her .115 opponents' batting average is second.

Kiersten Richardson - Softball Player of the Week

Richardson, a junior from Richmond, Va., picks up her second weekly award after helping the Marlins to six victories including four ODAC wins. Richardson went 5-for-15 with five walks and 15 stolen bases on the week. She had a pair of doubles, drove in two runs, and scored eight times herself.

She had nine stolen bases in a non-conference sweep of Mary Washington, including six in a 7-3 win in game two. She had three steals with two RBI in a 7-0 victory over Randolph, and registered at least one stolen base in the remaining three games to drive her season total to an ODAC-leading 39 stolen bases.

For the season, Richardson is hitting .439 with a .520 on-base percentage, which rank fifth and fourth in the ODAC, respectively. She leads the conference in runs scored (40) and doubles (13) in addition to stolen bases. She is second with 36 hits.

Nick Bay - Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Bay, a junior from Virginia Beach, Va., picked up a pair of wins in his two starts last week, including a conference victory on the road at Guilford.

Bay opened with six solid innings in a 9-4 non-conference win at Mary Washington. He gave up three runs with one earned on just one hit. He walked five batters and off-set those with eight strikeouts. In a 5-2 win over Guilford, Bay worked 7.0 frames and surrendered just five base runners on three hits and two walks. He gave up two runs and struck out three, giving him 11 punchouts in 13.0 total innings on the week.

For the season, Bay is now 3-1 with a 4.02 earned run average in 31.1 innings with 18 strikeouts.

Carter Morgan - Men's Golfer of the Week

Morgan, a freshman from Tappahannock, Va., earned his first collegiate victory at the Marlin Invitational last week. Morgan finished as the lone player under par in the 30-man event, helping Virginia Wesleyan to the team title with a 23-over 599 (298-301). Morgan opened with a 2-under 70 on the 7,007-yard par 72-track at Sleepy Hole Golf Course in Suffolk, Va. He carded a 1-over 73 in the final round to clinch a five-stroke victory over teammate Keith Cooper (73-75).

In seven total events, this is the first top-five and third top-10 showing for Morgan. He now owns a 77.1 per round average thru 14 rounds of competition.
