Hull Named NFCA National Pitcher of the Week
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Virginia Wesleyan's Hanna Hull and Wesley's Ashley Royer captured this week's Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III National Pitcher and Player of the Week honors, respectively.
Hull, a freshman left-hander for the (8-0) Marlins, went 2-0 last week with no earned runs over 13 innings of work. The Chesterfield, Va., native fanned a school-record 18 batters in a 5-0 win at N.C. Wesleyan, then struck out 12 Meredith batters in six innings in a 9-1 triumph.
Before picking up two more wins on Tuesday in Virginia Wesleyan's first-ever sweep of regional rival and perennial national power Salisbury, the Clover Hill High graduate had started her collegiate career 3-0 with 39 strikeouts and only two walks over her first 18 innings.
The No. 11 ranked Marlins face Sweet Briar College in the ODAC opener Wednesday at 2 p.m.
