FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Two members of the Virginia Wesleyan University men's tennis team earned spots on the Virginia Sports Information Director's (VaSID) All-State Second Team. Paul Gladstone and Timothy Tep were both honored for their singles performances over the 2019 season.
Gladstone turned in an impressive season, playing nearly every match in the first singles slot. As the Marlin's only senior, the Port Orange, Fla. native had a 14-13 overall record and went 8-3 in ODAC play. Two of Gladstone's wins came in the post season as he took down Randolph-Macon's Grant Sarver in the opening round and then Hampden-Sydney's Matthew Moody in the semifinals (both at first singles. The senior finished the year earning First Team All-ODAC honors as well.
Tep shined brightly in his first year as a Marlin, holding down the second singles slot a majority of the season. The Phnom Penh, Cambodia native churned out a solid 17-5 record from that slot, including winning all but one match in conference play (11-1). At the season's end, Tep claimed First Team All-ODAC honors in singles while also accumulating Second Team All-ODAC honors in doubles.
