Marlins Improve to 8-6 with 8-1 Win at Lynchburg

Lynchburg, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's tennis team defeated Lynchburg College 8-1 on Sunday afternoon in Lynchburg.  

The Marlins came out red hot in doubles by sweeping all 3 spots.  At #1 doubles, sophomore Nick Gunther (Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia) and freshman Mitchell Perry (Johns Creek, GA) improved to 5-3 at the top spot by defeating Luke Sablik and Bryce Barber 8-3. At #2, sophomore Andreas Combos (Raleigh, NC) and freshman Anthony Wilson (Lynchburg, VA) edged Zack Shane and Nick Savion 8-6 while Marlin's junior Paul Gladstone (Port Orange, FL) and freshman Mike Portera (Raleigh, NC) took down Juan Borga and Colton Mullins 8-5 at #3.

In singles, Nick Gunther made quick work of Zack Shane giving the Marlins their 4th point with a 6-1, 6-3 win at #3.  Shortly thereafter Anthony Wilson clinched the match for VWU with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Bryce Barber at #5 singles.

With the win the Marlins improve to 8-6 on the season while Lynchburg fell to 4-8.  The Marlins will travel to Roanoke College next Saturday for another ODAC showdown. Match time is set for 1 PM.
