Men's Soccer Shuts Out Eagles in Regular Season Finale

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team shut out Bridgewater, 3-0, in the regular season finale played at Bridgewater on Tuesday. With the result, the Marlins finish the regular season with a record of 7-10-0 and 4-4-0 in conference action. The team has also secured the seventh seed in the upcoming ODAC Championship and will square off against #2 Washington and Lee on Sunday.

After a scoreless first half, the Marlins were able to crack onto the scoreboard early in the second. Shaun Brooks opened up a scoring opportunity as he found Scott Signorelli with a nice thru ball in the box. The sophomore gathered the ball and ripped a shot that beat the Eagle netminder just three minutes in.

In the 57th minute, the Marlins were able to double their lead on a set piece. Earning a foul just outside the box, Michael Nocera lined the kick up and rocketed a shot to the far post that the keeper was unable to get to. Devin Wallace then added an insurance goal late on another set piece. Matt Campbell whipped in a corner kick that was defended by the Eagles, but a weak clear put a bouncing ball in front of the senior. Wallace sized it up and on a half volley, crushed a ball that found the back of the net.

Griffin Potter kept a clean sheet in net, stopping all three of the shots he faced.
