Men's Soccer Downed By Lynchburg on Senior Day

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team fell, 3-1, to Lynchburg Saturday evening under the lights of the Trinder Center. With the result, the Marlins move to 6-10-0 on the year and go to 3-4-0 in conference action. Lynchburg improves to 7-4-5 on the season (4-1-2 ODAC).

The match started even with plenty of play in the middle of the field. A goal in the 19th minute for Lynchburg broke open the scoring and the Marlins would trail 1-0 going into the intermission. Lynchburg found a pair more in the second half, widening their lead. Devin Wallace had both of the Marlins best chances, converting on the second. Down just 2-0, Wallace headed a ball to the top left corner of the goal but a diving save prevented it from going in. He then secured a goal in the 75th minute as Kevin Prophet sent in a ball on the goal line that Wallace was able to knock across the goal line. The comeback effort fell short though as the Marlins were handed their fourth conference loss of the season.

Despite the loss, Griffin Potter played well in net, stopping eight Hornet shots including a penalty kick attempt.

Men's soccer returns to action again at 4 p.m. on Tuesday as the team squares off in a road battle against Bridgewater in the regular season finale.
