ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team fell, 4-1, to North Carolina Wesleyan College Wednesday afternoon on the road. With the loss, the Marlins move to 1-3 on the season while the Battling Bishops improve to 2-1.
The Marlins found themselves in a hole early as NCWC capitalized on a mistake just under two minutes into the contests. The Battling Bishops would score two more before the halftime whistle, putting the visitors down 3-0 after one period of play.
After N.C. Wesleyan tallied another, the Marlins finally were able to get on the scoreboard. Collin Innes took a free kick near the right corner of the 18-yard box. The ball curled in and found the head of Scott Signorelli, who skipped it back post past the opposing keeper. The goal came too late though as the Marlins were unable to put anymore away.
Griffin Potter took the loss in net, stopping four opposing shots.
Men's soccer returns to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday as the squad travels north to take on Salisbury University.
