VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2019 season. The squad will compete in 17 contests, including six on its home field.
To kick off the season, the squad will head up to Chestertown, Md. for the Athey Cup hosted by Washington College. The tournament begins on August 30 as the Marlins take on the host Shoremen in the opening game and then square off against Allegheny College the following day.
The Marlins return to Virginia Beach after that, hosting Mary Baldwin University at the Trinder Center for the team's home opener on Sept. 7.
A three-game road stint is next in store for the squad, beginning with a contest against North Carolina Wesleyan College on Sept. 11. Virginia Wesleyan then travels north to Salisbury University on Sept. 14. Capping the road stretch a road game against Randolph-Macon (marked as non-conference due to unbalanced-scheduling)
Its back to Trinder for VWU on Sept 22 as the Monarchs of Methodist University visit. The team then hits the road for back-to-back games beginning with Emory & Henry on Sept. 28 and then Greensboro College on Oct. 1.
Next on tap for the Marlins is a pair of home bouts, beginning with a tilt against Randolph on Oct 5 (Virginia Wesleyan Homecoming). Six days later, the team welcomes Hampden-Sydney to the Trinder Center.
Conference play continues on the road as the team travels to Ferrum for a match on Oct. 12. Its then to Shenandoah for another ODAC battle on Oct. 15.
The final four contests will have the team back-and-forth from Virginia Beach. The team opens with an Oct. 19 tilt against Washington and Lee at home. They then hit the road to square off against Guilford on Oct. 23. The penultimate game of the regular season is a home contest against Lynchburg on Oct. 26,
