VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team dropped its contest with Christopher Newport University, 3-0, Wednesday evening at the Trinder Center. With the result, the Marlins move to 1-9 on the season while CNU improves to 5-4.
The first half was closely knit as neither team could convert on any of their scoring chances. Ricky Perrault saw a shot go just wide of the net while Andrew Freeman sent a header left of the net on a corner. Both teams would bring zero goals with them into the half.
CNU came out the second stanza firing, scoring two goals off set pieces. The Captains then tucked a final insurance goal away in the final minute of regulation.
Walter Morris got his first start as a Marlin in goal, stopping five shots despite the loss.
Men's soccer will return to action again at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday as the team hosts Ferrum on Homecoming.
