Marlins Win Third Straight, Down Panthers 2-0

FERRUM, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College men's soccer team won its third straight match on Monday, defeating Ferrum College 2-0 in non-conference action.

Monday's contest was the second straight shutout posted by Virginia Wesleyan and the third in the past five matches.

The Marlins started the scoring last in the first half when Alex Suprise found Zach Raymond at the 40:39 mark. The Virginia Wesleyan defense would make sure the one goal would stand up, holding the Panthers to just three shots in the first half.

Virginia Wesleyan tallied an insurance goal at 50:30 when Bennett Wiley found Andrew Duenke for his team-leading, fourth goal of the year.

Derek Thomas finished with seven saves for Ferrum (4-10) while Jay Fox stopped three shots for the Marlins.

VWC outshot Ferrum 16-9 with a 14-3 edge in corner kicks.

Virginia Wesleyan (5-4-2/1-1-1) travels to Hampden-Sydney College (5-4-1/0-2-1) Wednesday for a 7 p.m. Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) start.
