Lynchburg Downs Marlins in Tough 1-0 Bout

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College men's soccer team lost a tough bout to Lynchburg College, 1-0, on Saturday evening.

The Hornets controlled the game early offensively and took a corner kick advantage just under the six minute mark. Adam Reynolds took the corner kick for Lynchburg College. The Hornets followed with two shots on goal, but the Marlins defense made two big consecutive stops. Lynchburg continued to push the ball down the field and at the 17:23 mark, Jack Ashby scored the game's first goal.

Alex Suprise took the Marlins first corner kick just under the 30 minute mark. Suprise took another corner kick at 39:18 and the Hornets were able to come up with a much needed defensive play.

Jay Fox, the goalie for the Marlins, made four saves on the night as he held his own in the net. Dylan McLaurin, the goalie for the Hornets, made his only save on the Marlins lone shot on goal.

Virginia Wesleyan (2-4-2/0-1-1) travels to North Carolina Wesleyan (6-3) for a tough non-conference matchup on Wednesday evening slated for a 7 p.m. start.
