Men's Lacrosse Unable to Get by No. 18 Washington and Lee

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team fell, 15-5, to No. 18 Washington and Lee Wednesday night at Birdsong Field. With the result, the Marlins drop to 8-7 on the season and go to 3-5 in conference play. The Generals improve to 10-4 on the season and remain unbeaten in conference play (7-0).

The Generals made up most of the offense over the course of the first quarter, scoring the contest's first five goals. Greg Gaetano halted the Washington and Lee run as he rocketed a shot off a Brady Morrison pass that beat the netminder. The second quarter spoke much of the same as the Marlins found themselves down 9-1 going into halftime.

Coming out of the intermsiion, the Marlins were the first to get on the board as Trevor Lalande slotted one shortside on the opposing goalie. The Generals answered with four more though, before Gaetano and Jon Onia cut the deficit to 13-4 by the end of the third. Joey Rayman was able to add one more in the final seconds of the game but it was not enough to overtake the General lead.

Kyle Leeming played all 60 minutes in net for the Marlins, stopping 12 shots in the process.

Men's lacrosse will return to action again at 1 p.m. on Saturday for the home regular season finale against Guilford.
