Cunningham Leads the Way In Men's Golf Season Opener

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's golf team finished up Day One of the Tom Kinder Memorial Tournament Monday afternoon played at Lakeview Golf Course. The team finished with 316 strokes (+28), putting them in 15th after the first round.

Leading the way was Taylor Cunningham, who had a tremendous outing in the season opener. The junior finished just one stroke over par (73), putting him in a tie for 13th overall. Cunningham nailed the front nine, tallying three birdies and a par-five eagle on hole three.

The next lowest scores came from Noah Phillips (+7) and Jackson Lyons (+8) as they finished 61st and 63rd, respectively. Both players birdied hole 16 and Lyons registered another at hole 6.

Beau Janousek turned in the next lowest score as he shot an 84 (+12) on day one. Despite the higher score, Janousek matched Cunningham with a trio of birdies.

Rounding out the squad was Noah Hughes, who tallied an 87 (+15) through the first 18.

Men's golf returns to action Tuesday morning to finish the final day of the Tom Kinder Memorial in Harrisonburg, Va.
