FOREST, Va. – Two members of the Virginia Wesleyan University men's basketball team were named to the All-Conference Teams by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). Lamont Steward earned a spot on the Second Team while Tim Fisher collected Third Team honors.
Steward has had another terrific year in a Marlin uniform, earning his second-straight All-Conference honor. The junior is averaging a career-high 14.9 points per game, which leads the Marlin squad. Over the 2018-19 season, he has hit double-digit scoring in all but three games including a career-high 28 point game in a win over Emory & Henry. The Norfolk Va. native has also been able to get to the glass, hauling in 154 boards and hitting the double-double mark twice. Steward has been trending upwards towards the end of the year, which showed in the regular season home finale in which his lay up in the final seconds helped seal the win.
Fisher has been one of the top big men in the ODAC all season. Starting in every single game, the Richmond, Va. native has performed well on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball, which included a four-game stretch in the beginning of the year where he notched four double-doubles. Fisher leads the team in rebounds this season, shattering his career high by over 100 boards. He's also the squad's second best point getter, averaging 13.1 this year.
Men's basketball has earned the fourth seed in the upcoming ODAC Championship meaning they will square off against fifth-seeded Washington and Lee in the tournament opener. That game will take place at 3 p.m. on Thursday at the Salem Civic Center.
