Men’s Basketball Falls at Washington and Lee

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University men's basketball team suffered a 75-59 loss on the road to the Washington and Lee Generals. With the loss, the Marlins fall to 10 – 12 on the season while the Generals go to 14 – 7.

The contest was closely contested early on as neither side could immediately pull away from the other. The tide turned however thanks to a 10 – 2 run from Washington and Lee about midway through the first period of play. The Generals rode this momentum into halftime as they were leading by a score of 32 – 21.

The Generals showed no signs of slowing down as they were able to extend their lead to 17. Despite this, the Marlins were able to put together a 9 – 0 run to cut the Generals' lead to 8 with 14:30 remaining in the second half. This came alongside some quality play from Lamont Steward who had 13 points on the afternoon. Washington and Lee eventually pulled away from the Marlins as they ultimately won convincingly.

The Marlins shot 33.8 % from the floor during the afternoon while Washington and Lee made 41.3 % of their shots. Virginia Wesleyan's Tyree Golston dropped 14 points on 5 – 11 shooting and snagged 9 rebounds.

Coach Dave Macedo's squad will be looking to bounce back in another ODAC contest against the Emory and Henry Wasps (14 – 6, 7 – 4 ODAC) on February 9 for senior day. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 PM in Virginia Beach.
