Marlins End Season in ODAC Quarterfinals
BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The No. 3 seed Bridgewater College jumped out to an early start to end the season for the No. 6 seed Virginia Wesleyan College field hockey team by a score of 8-0 on Tuesday. It was the first appearance in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament for the Marlins since 2011.
Taylor Prillaman posted the first goal of the game at 1:49 as she dribbled around keeper Skye Swain on a breakaway attempt. Prillaman would go on to add another two goals en route to a hat trick. Allison Kirk also collected a hat trick for Bridgewater with two of her three scores coming in the second half.
The Marlin defense held Bridgewater without a penalty corner attempt in the first half, limiting the Eagles to just three in the entire match. Virginia Wesleyan also continued its accurate shooting, putting four of six chances on the cage. Bridgewater's Marisa Sims stopped all four tries.
Swain finished with 10 saves for the Marlins, giving her 183 saves for the season, second-most in school history. She also ended the year with four shutouts, tying for most in a season by a first-year.
Virginia Wesleyan finishes the season with a record of 6-14.
