Baseball Splits But Bows Out of ODACs with Loss to Macon

SALEM, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team split its two games at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship, bowing out of the tournament with a loss to Randolph-Macon in game two. The Marlins eliminated Roanoke from the Tournament with a 2-1 victory before falling to the Yellow Jackets by the same score. The Marlins finish their year with a record of 22-17.

GAME 1: VWU - 2  RC - 1

The Maroons were the first to get on the board, scoring their sole run in the bottom of the opening frame. Things went quiet for a bit, but the Marlins knotted things back up at 1-1 in the fourth. Austin Obenour opened up things with a walk and got to third as he stole second and advanced on a throwing error. Brady Fallon then drove him in with a sacrifice fly out to left field.

Things stalled all the way until the final inning and that's when Virginia Wesleyan struck again. Much like the first score, Obenour got things started with a lead off walk. Jordan McDonough then singled and an error, moved both runners into scoring position. Fallon then knocked in his second RBI with a single that plated Obenour.

Jacob Pilarski had an excellent showing on the bump, going all 9.0 innings to collect his ninth win. The junior punched out ten Maroon batters and didn't allow a single earned run.

GAME 2: R-MC - 2  VWU - 1

After a Yellow Jacket solo shot put them up one in the fourth, the Marlins were able to tie it in the sixth. Dylan Gentry led off the side with a double and was moved to third on a passed ball. McDonough then drove him in as he grounded out to first base. Things stayed that way until the ninth inning as Macon walked it off with a single to right.

Jay Crusemire performed well on the mound despite the loss, going 8.1 innings while only allowing five hits.
