Baseball Unable to Hold Lead Over LaGrange

LAGRANGE, Ga. - The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team dropped its contest with LaGrange, 8-5, Saturday afternoon on the raod. With the loss, the Marlins move to 0-3 on the season while the Panthers improve to 5-2.

After a scoreless first two innings, the Marlins were the first to get on the board. Daniel Petro got the side going with a leadoff single. He was then moved to second on a balk and two batters later, a Dylan Gentry single plated him. Gentry would then score in the next at-bat as Brady Fallon hit a double. LaGrange answered right back though, piling in three of their own in the bottom of the frame.

In the fourth, everything was knotted up again, this time as Jordan McDonough took a ball over the fence to lead things off. LaGrange answered once again though, this time plating two more in the bottom of the frame.

Down 5-3, the Marlins grinded the game to a tie again, this time courtesy of Austin Obenour. The junior cracked the game's second home run, this time with a runner on, bringing the score to even. The standstill would last only moments though as the Panthers plated two in the bottom of the frame and another insurance run in the seventh.

Jacob Pilarski took the loss, striking out seven but also allowing six earned. Robert Cook would through a scoreless sixth and CJ Morris would close out the game.

Baseball will return to action at 2 p.m. on Wednesday as the team travels to play nearby Christopher Newport University.
