Volleyball Endures Marathon Match at St. Mary's

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College volleyball team fought to a fifth set at St. Mary's College (Md.) in the Marlins' second true road match of the year, falling 25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-11 on Wednesday night.

The Marlins kept it close once again, a trait that has been synonymous with the past several matches dating back to the Virginia Wesleyan College Tournament.

First-year Kristina Scott had an impressive showing with a career-high 15 kills for a team-leading .333 hitting percentage. Kirstin Sessoms posted 28 assists while Marin Crowder led the Marlins with 13 digs.

Alli Graf and Mandy Goodspeed led the way for St. Mary's (3-3) with 19 kills each. Goodspeed was incredibly impressive with just two attack errors for a .472 hitting mark. Mimi Graf had 27 assists as Carissa Hill collected 30 digs.

Virginia Wesleyan (2-4) will play in the Roanoke College Maroon Classic this weekend with play set to start on Friday against Meredith College at 5 p.m.
