Women's Tennis Falls in Tight ODAC Opener

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College women's tennis team fell to 0-2 on the season with a 5-4 loss in its ODAC opener to Guilford College at the Everett Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

In doubles action, sophoore Jackie Lee and first-year Katie Staman locked down No. 2 doubles with an 8-3 win. Guilford went on to take No. 1 and No. 3 to give the Quakers a 2-1 edge heading into singles.

The Marlins started strong in singles action by taking 1-3 singles in straight sets. At No. 1, senior Mia Proctor held on for a 6-2, 6-4 victory. Jackie Lee and Katie Staman proceeded to sweep sets at No. 2 and No. 3 singles respectively. The Marlins were not as successful at 4-6 singles as Guilford went on to take all three spots, giving the Quakers a 5-4 victory over the Marlins.
Virginia Wesleyan will face Penn State Abington on Tuesday at the Everett Tennis Center at 3:30pm
