Women's Swimming Outdoes Randolph In Home Opener

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University women's swim team took down Randolph in its home opener today in the VWU Natatorium. The Marlins outscored the WildCats 101-79, giving the team its first dual meet victory of the season.

It was a solid day all around for the marlin squad with the team racking up six of the 11 event victories, with five different members of the team picking up a first place finish. Amanda Waller was the lone Marlin to pick up a pair of wins, clocking a 2:34.31 in the 200-yard freestyle before setting a time of 1:28.53 in the 100-yard breast stroke.

Sticking with the shorter distances, Morgan Lucas came out victorious in the 50-yd free, touching the wall at the 33:07 mark. Freshman Sarah Conley then took her first collegiate individual victory by clocking a 1:25.57 in the 100-yd backstroke. The Marlins' final first place finish came from senior Hayley Heath who led the pack in the 200-yd IM with a time of 2:49.08.

In the distance evetns, Taylor Morich performed well, claiming first place in the 500-yd freestyle with a time of 7:14.24.

Women's swimming will get back in the water at 2 p.m. on Saturday as the team heads to a Tri-Meet in Murfreesboro, N.C. There the squad will square off against Chowan and Pfeiffer.
