GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's swim team had a solid outing in the program's first ever trip to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships located at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The squad currently sits in 9th place after recording 32 points on the day.
The squad started the day off with some success in the relay races.Ashley Whipple, Morgan Lucas, Miah Kurtz and Hayley Heath teamed up to take tenth in the 200-yard freestyle relay, knocking two seconds off the school record (2:02.69). Following up that race, Allie Ghazaleh, Amanda Waller, Heath and Diana Jones collaborated to break another school record in the 400-yd medley relay as they finished the race in a time of 5:09.86.
Individually, the Marlin swimmers set personal records all around, moving their ways up the newly written VWU record books. Heath clocked a time of 2:42.10 in the 200-yd IM, which is now the top time in school history. Right behind her was Ghazaleh, whose time of 3:12.10 was a PR. In the 50-yd free, Whipple (29.69), Lucas (30.52) and Kurtz (32.84) all set new personal bests and now sit 2nd, 4th, and 9th, respectively, in the record books. Kurtz capped off the day with a new personal top time in the 500-yard free, touching the wall in 6:56.35.
Women's swimming will return to the GAC tomorrow for day two of the ODAC Championships.
