Marlins Drop Tight Contest to Sweet Briar
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan University women's swimming team fell in a tight meet to Sweet Briar College by a score of 93-76 on Saturday. Unlike previous meets which took place in yard pools, this meet featured a meter pool, resulting in differing times.
Amanda Waller captured several victories in the meet, winning the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:40.82. She also teamed with Allie Ghazaleh, Hayley Heath, and Ashley Whipple for a win in the 200 medley relay, touching the wall at 2:36.85. The 200 freestyle relay team of Diana Jones, Morgan Lucas, Francesca Lanuza, and Whipple claimed another victory with a time of 2:27.02.
Taylor Morich finished second in the 800 freestyle with a time of 12:54.23. Whipple placed second in the 50 freestyle with a 34.33 time. Ghazaleh continued the string of impressive finishes with a second place finish in the 200 backstroke, stopping the clock at 3:38.84.
Lucas earned a third place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 35.19 to go with another third place finish in the 100 freestyle where she swam a 1:22.93. Morich rounded out the third place finishers with a 6:17.88 in the 400 freestyle.
Virginia Wesleyan travels to Hollins University on Saturday, November 18 to face Hollins, Emory & Henry, and Randolph.
