VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's soccer team will return to the Divsion III NCAA Championship as announced by the NCAA DIII women's soccer selection show Monday afternoon. The squad earned an at large bid and will square off against New York University in the opening round at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in Swarthmore, Pa.
After falling to Lynchburg in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship final, the Marlins had to wait to see if their record of 11-4-4 was good enough to earn a bid. A solid record combined with an impressive strength of schedule earned the team its third-striaght bid into the NCAA tournament.
The squad will open up with a bout against NYU, who also earned an at-large bid. The Violets will enter the tournament for the first time since 2014, boasting a record of 10-5-3. This will also mark the first meeting between the two sides.
On the other side of the bracket is host Swarthmore University vs St. Joseph's of Maine.
