Women's Soccer Finishes Unbeaten In ODAC Play With Bridgewater Draw

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University women's soccer earned a 0-0 tie with Bridgewater Saturday afternoon on the road. With the result, the Marlins finish the season with an overall record of 9-3-4 and 6-0-4 in conference play. While not able to clinch the top seed, the squad will now wait for the later games to see if they will be the second, third or fourth seed in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship.

The score spoke for the game with neither team winning the possession battle. Shots were nearly even, with the Marlins holding the slight edge, 15-12. In the middle of the second half, Marli Hayward had an opportunity when it looked as though she broke free in the box with just the goalie to beat. An Eagle defender back-checked well though, deflecting the junior's shot so it rolled easily to the keeper.

Tied after 90 minutes, Alex Davidson nearly won it for Virginia Wesleyan in the early moments of overtime. The squad earned a corner kick that was sent towards the back post. Alexandra Fitz headed back towards the goal mouth and Davidson headed it just north of the crossbar.

Tristen Roberts did well to pick up her fourth shutout of the year, turning aside all three Eagle shots-on-target.
