Marlins unable to extend comeback against Randolph-Macon

VIRGINIA BEACH -- A four-goal production extending from the end of the first half into the early minutes of the second half provided Randolph-Macon College's Yellow Jackets enough of an edge Wednesday to post a 15-10 victory over the host Marlins of Virginia wesleyan College on Foster Field at the Trinder Center.

That run helped the Jackets (11-3, 7-1) to open up a 10-6 lead with 13:51 remaining in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest.  Junior Tiana Garland (Norfolk/Maury) and rookie Megan Schallock (Waukesha, Wis./Mukwonago) scored three of the next four goals to bring the Marlins back within an 11-9 score with 11:48 remaining, but the Marlins (9-7, 4-5) could not get closer. R-MC scored four the game's final five goals to pull away for the win.

Schallock and Garland finished as goal-scoring leaders for the Marlins, recording four and three, respectively. Taylor Simon (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty), Carla Williams (Magnolia, Del./Caesar Rodney), and Candace Carey (Charlottesville/Albemarle) scored a goal each.  Junior Shannon Ruffalo (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee)recorded a game-high six ground balls for VWC and Schallock finished with a game-high seven draw control wins. Schallock increased her season total of draw control wins to 77, moving her past Laura Wallace into third place among VWC's all-time season leaders.

Alicia Hseih (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) scored five goals and Suzie Snee (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) added four to lead R-MC.

Virginia Wesleyan goalie Madison Carroll (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown)and R-MC stopper Allie Walker (Towson, Md./Mercy) both finished with 12 saves.

VWC closes the regular season on Saturday, April 18, hosting Shenandoah University at 1 p.m.
